Sustainability Report 2022: our commitment to a sustainable future as a CDMO
In the contract development and manufacturing industry (CDMO), sustainability has become a key pillar. At AGC Pharma Chemicals we understand that our success is not only measured by the quality of our products and services, but also by our commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. In line with this commitment, we have presented our 2022 Sustainability Report, a key tool for sharing our sustainability progress and communicating our initiatives towards a more responsible future. This report allows us to be transparent with all our stakeholders, from collaborators and customers to suppliers and local communities.
To do so, we have followed the guidelines of the GRI Global Reporting Initiative and those set out in the Non-Financial Information Law regarding the principles of comparability, reliability, materiality and relevance.
Who we are and what we do
We are a leading global company in the development and manufacture of pharmaceutical and intermediate active ingredients for the pharmaceutical industry. Our focus is on providing innovative and tailored solutions to our customers, thereby driving the development of medical treatments that improve people’s quality of life.
Sustainability is a fundamental value and we have identified it as one of our four key strategic lines, along with customer focus, operational excellence, and innovation. We believe that focusing on sustainability is not only the right thing for the planet and society but is also essential to fulfilling our company’s mission.
With this vision of our responsibility, we strive to align our actions with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), thereby seeking to make a positive impact on society and the environment.
This is our belief and what drives us every day. This was acknowledged by EcoVadis, the world’s most reliable provider of corporate sustainability ratings, which awarded us its platinum medal in 2022.
Commitment to the environment
In this year’s edition, we highlighted our actions to move towards more efficient environmental management, focusing on reducing the impact of our activities throughout the supply chain.
The main environmental milestone of 2022 was joining the Science Based Targets initiative, which reflects our global mission to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
Commitment to people
At AGC Pharma Chemicals we recognise that our greatest asset is people. That’s why we invest in your professional and personal development, ensuring a safe and healthy working environment. Our corporate culture, salary, reconciliation and internal promotion policies, training and the generous social benefits we offer are reflected in a working climate that is conducive to attracting and retaining talent. At the end of 2022, a total of 334 people formed AGC Pharma Chemicals Europe, 16 more than the previous year.
Gender equality and non-discrimination are values that we are particularly keen to promote throughout our organisation, as we believe that diversity is key to innovation and growth. This is why we put special efforts into promoting an inclusive and respectful environment for everyone in the company and for the first time in 2022 we conducted a diagnosis on the diversity of our people.
In terms of people, highlights in 2022 include:
- Over 17,600 hours of training
- Over 95% with a permanent employment contract
- 25 new hires, more than 40% of which are women
Commitment to society and health
AGC Pharma Chemicals Europe’s commitment to society is reflected in our social contribution policy that defines four priority lines of action: childhood, environment, health and the local community.
In 2022 we undertook 25 different activities, including during the Christmas party, attended by 226 people, in favour of children and the environment.
In short, our 2022 Sustainability Report reflects our work to protect the environment, promote the equality and well-being of our people, as well as to uphold high standards of ethics and good governance. We continue to move towards a sustainable future, aligning our actions with the SDGs and aiming to become leaders in the CDMO industry. At AGC Pharma Chemicals we want to make a difference and contribute to a better world for generations to come.
